Real Wedding: Jenn and Stuart’s Mountain Wedding at Banff’s Rimrock Resort
Two New Yorkers, a full weekend in Banff, and a ballroom in silvery grey and blush.
Jennifer and Stuart met in the middle of New York City, where they both live and both work in finance. On a visit to Jenn's hometown of Edmonton, they detoured to Banff, Alberta — and the mountains quietly made the decision for them. When they got engaged, there was only ever one wedding destination.
Family and friends travelled from across the continent to be there. They chose The Rimrock Resort, high on Sulphur Mountain, and built the weekend around their guests: a Friday welcome reception at Park Distillery Restaurant & Bar so nobody arrived as a stranger to anyone else.
Saturday was the day. Each had a single attendant, which made for a slow, easy morning of hair and make-up in the rooms. Jenn and Stuart had hoped for an outdoor ceremony with the Rockies behind them, but mountain weather had other plans and it moved inside. Planning tip: if your ceremony is outdoors, always have a real back-up plan — not a hopeful one. They read personal vows to one another, and cocktail hour followed immediately in the resort's Art Deco foyer.
Guests reassembled in the Wildrose Ballroom. Silvery grey vintage linens, silver Chiavari chairs, and centrepieces alternating tall and low with white hydrangea, white tulips, greenery, and blush and cream roses. Silver beaded chargers, clean table numbers, menu cards at every place. After dinner and speeches, the room came apart in the best way as Calgary's Side One Band took over.
A farewell brunch the next morning gave everyone one last hour together before the drive back to the airport. An incredible mountain weekend for a wonderful couple.
