With the changing color of the leaves, September is a beautiful time for a wedding! The weather is often still warm enough for an outdoor wedding, which was exactly what Jordanna and Ian wanted. They decided on the Rocking R Guest Ranch, located just east of Strathmore, where they could have the tented wedding that they imagined, complete with horses in the fields and stunning sunset views of Eagle Lake.
There is no question that these two are soulmates. Biological engineers, their intelligence is through the roof, but one look at the two of them, and you know they are meant for one another. Their quirky sense of humour is matched evenly between the two of them, and their playful personalities came up with some fun ideas that were included throughout the planning process and on the day itself. (E.g. Wedding favours were boxes of “Mixed Nuts”.) Both were actively involved with the wedding planning, along with family members and friends. Each and every decision related to the experience that their guests would have. Choosing a venue that would allow their guests to go straight from the ceremony, to outdoor games, cocktail hour, and then a reception was essential. Guests were seated at harvest tables and served family style, as if they were in the comfort of their own home. The food was amazing! (Some of the best wedding food that I’ve had the privilege to enjoy!) Dinner included beet salad, cedar plank salmon, and braised short rib. The bride has a weakness for macrons, so they became the obvious choice for dessert!
Style was important to them both. The groom and groomsmen wore custom suits from EPH Apparel in deep blue with orange accents. The bridesmaids complemented the gentlemen wearing dusty blue full length gowns from Jenny Yoo. The bride wore a lace covered gown by Stella York, that she chose with the help of her dad. Her butterfly shoes she wore for the ceremony were one-of-a-kind, but she slipped into the comfortable familiarity of her cowboy boots for the reception. Her dad has built a gazebo that will be moved to the newlywed’s garden at their new home. It was adorned by flowers in shades of rich marsala, bright orange, coral, and greenery. A mix of roses in the same colors and greenery were used for a garden-like bridal bouquet, while gerbera daisies were added to the bridesmaids’ bouquets and the reception table garlands.
it was a beautiful day for friends and family. The DJ kept everyone entertained until late in the evening keeping the dance floor full. A great day for an amazing couple!
In the bride’s words:
“For us, it was all about the surrounding landscape we were in, and highlighting the beautiful autumn colours. We are both, originally from British Columbia, but met in Alberta, where we fell in love with each other and the gorgeous Alberta skies, mountains, and everything in between. We wanted to celebrate in the prairie countryside with an outdoor wedding, complete with lots of lawn games for our guests in the surrounding venue.” – Jordanna, Bride
Special thanks to all of the vendors involved for helping make it such a wonderful day for Jordanna and Ian! (Credits at the end of the blog.)
