Each year, Pantone©, the world's leading authority on color announces the Color-Of-The-Year. It's what we can expect to see on fashion runways, home decor and more. From Pantone's perspective, it's more than that. They see color as an expression of our global culture. It represents a mood and an attitude. Of course, the main reason we care about it is that we also start to see it appearing more and more as a color in wedding palettes. In the past we've seen such shades as Radiant Orchid, Marsala, Rose Quartz, and Serenity. Today, they made the announcement of the new Color-Of-The-Year 2017 - Greenery!
It's the color of grass, of Granny Smith apples, of palm fronds, and of course, Kermit the Frog! According to Leatrice Eiserman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, "Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we year for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose."
To me, greenery is like a breath of springtime! It reminds me of many of the colors found in nature and the color of fresh foliage. Nicknamed "Nature's Neutral", it can work with so many different color combinations. While greenery has tended to be more of a literal background item found in floral arrangements, we're seeing it take center stage in wedding design. This vibrant shade gives a sense of cleanliness, rejuvenation and even oxygenation. Terrariums, garlands and botanicals are all popular in today's wedding décor and design, making it a natural connection and incorporation of this year's color of the year.
