In the beginning of October we were treated to New York Bridal Fashion Week! Wedding gown designers showcased their Fall 2017 Bridal Collections to give us a glimpse of what we'll see brides wearing in the year to come. Top bridal designers like Hayley Paige, Lazaro, Vera Wang and Berta brought us their best. Some designs are continuation of past trends with a new variation or two, while others bring freshness to the scene. Most importantly, we're seeing something for every style of bride out there - seductive and sexy, classic and timeless, or bohemian romance. So many options to choose from. What is the right style for you?
Off The Shoulder
We first really saw off-the-shoulder gowns as a trend debut at the reveal of the Spring 2017 Collection of assorted bridal gown designers. A bit bohemian, definitely romantic! We saw this look featured in the designs of Vera Wang, Savannah Miller, and Berta.
Ruffles, Tiers and Layers - Oh My!
For ballgowns, it has became all about the layers! Cascading ruffles and voluminous tiers add some fun and frivolity to the fashion runway. We love the playful movement and fullness of these full skirts. Hayley Paige is a master of incorporating full skirts into her design. Lazaro, Carolina Herrera, Romona Keveza, and Mark Zunino also used tiers and ruffles in their designs.
Say It With Sleeves
When Kate Middleton wed her Prince Charming (AKA Prince William), we saw a resurgence in long sleeves in wedding gown fashion. Nowadays, sleeves continue to be just as popular, but today's sleeves are taking on a personality all their own. In addition to full length sleeves, we're seeing more and more designs with either bell sleeves or bishop sleeves. Full length or half, tapered or loose, on the shoulder or off - there are just so many options to choose from.
Plunging Necklines And Backs
Many of today's brides are looking to make a statement on their wedding day! These gowns will stop traffic no matter whether you're coming or going. However, we do have to put out a word of warning - these gowns are definitely not your Grandma's wedding dress! Simply jaw-dropping, Berta and Galia Lahav lead the way in wedding gown sexiness.
White and ivory will never go out of style, but we continue to see more and more color in bridal fashion. A few daring designers went with bold colors, but the softer, more romantic blush wedding gowns are more popular than ever.
Feathers and Accessories
Imitating trends in ready-to-wear, we saw lots of bold statements in terms of accessories - earrings, tiaras, floral crowns, adornments and more. This is very much a chance for you to bring out your own personal style in the jewellery and accessories you select. We also more adornments being added to gowns, such as feathers and fringe. Designers such as Monique Lhuillier and Inbal Dror featured some of these designs in their collection.
Lace Patterns And Texture
Lace is not new to wedding gown design, but seeing it in bold patterns is definitely a new use of it. It gives the gowns an almost international flair. With or without beading, lace is being used more dramatically, making a statement all its own!
