FAQs

Q?

Why don’t you put pricing on your website?

A.

We want to be upfront with you about costs and make sure we give you an accurate estimate for the services you require. Different factors will impact the cost, such as the number of guests, where your venue is, how much décor there is, the timeframe we have to set-up and/or teardown, plus many more details. I can put a average ballpark price out there, but the cost of our services for your wedding may be more or less. I know for myself, I don't like surprises. By getting a few more details from you upfront allows me to make sure I give you the best price for what you need.

Q?

What would my day look like without a wedding planner?

A.

The alarm goes off, and you wearily roll over. It seems like you had just crawled into bed. Oh wait, you had! You were up half the night trying to finish putting together the wedding favours and finish the menu cards, and had only crawled into be a couple of hours ago. Knowing there was still a huge list of things to be done, you threw back the covers and dragged yourself out of bed.

A quick glance at your closet and you see your wedding dress hanging there, still in the garment bag, and you can’t help but smile. This is the day you’ve been waiting for and planning for so long. It’s finally here, but you don’t have time to stand around. You’ve got to get going in order to get to the hair salon and back.

A quick look at your cell phone shows that you have two missed calls. The first is from your bridesmaid and BFF. She was just calling to remind you that she will be by to get you in 45 minutes to go to the hair salon, and reminding you that you have to stop by the reception venue on your way back to drop off the chair covers and such. She breaks the news that two of your friends who had promised to help out have had to cancel. She’s looking for replacements, but asks if you know of anyone else who may be able to set-up the décor. Looks like you’re going to be tying some chair sashes after your hair appointment!

The second message is from the DJ. He’s just clarifying the time and location, but the time he’s mentioning is all wrong. He can’t set up then. The cocktail reception will be in full swing by then! It’s too late. It’s not like you don’t have enough to do, but now you need to call the DJ back to ask him to stick to the times you originally agreed to. Yes, it’s 7:00 in the morning, but you don’t have time to fool around. You push “redial” only to go straight to voicemail. You leave him a message, but would feel better if you could actually speak to him in person. As you head for the shower you make a mental note to call him again later.

After your shower, you finish getting dressed and note that your friend is due to pick you up in 10 minutes. A quick trip downstairs and you pop a piece of bread in the toaster. You’re definitely going to be eating on the go. Your mom is in the kitchen. She’s packing up all of the wedding favors that were left on the table and adding the boxes to growing pile of things that have to be taken to the church and reception site. You can’t help but notice that she has dark circles under her eyes as she was up half the night with you trying to help you finish everything.

You tell her the problem that has come up with the DJ and the decorating crew. Your mom was already planning on heading over to the reception site to start working on the décor, but says she will make a couple of phone calls and see if any of her friends might be able to come over and help out. You know that she is just as exhausted as you, but like a trouper, she tries to smile. “Don’t worry,” she says, “we’ll find a way to get everything done.”

A horn honks outside, indicating the arrival of your friend. You say thanks and give her a quick hug before running out the door. There is no way you would make it through the day without her help. It seems like there is so much to do, but not enough time to get everything done. It had seemed like a big expense to get some extra help on your wedding day, but now you’re not so sure. Right now it seems like it would have been worth every penny to have someone who could come in and look after all the little things so you could concentrate on what’s important – like getting married!

Q?

Do I need a wedding planner?

A.

For the longest time, a wedding planner has been considered a luxury item. However, if you talk to a couple that just got married, they will tell you that was one of the best investments they made. Our job is to work with you on your wedding and assist you with not only the things you’ve thought of, but all the things you didn’t even think about. We’re there on the wedding day so you can spend time with your fiancé, your families, and your friends rather than worrying about all the details of your special day.  We’re there to take care of the details, leaving you to have the fun and thoroughly enjoy your wedding experience. Most importantly, on your wedding day you get to shine as the star, while your consultant works behind the scenes to make your dreams come true!

Q?

What does it cost? Can I even afford a wedding planner?

A.

It’s fair to say that we offer something for almost everyone. The fee will vary depending on what types of services you ask for. While some couples are looking for full planning assistance, another couple may need only a little bit of help here and there with hourly consulting. We encourage all potential clients to meet with us for a COMPLIMENTARY initial consultation to determine exactly what you need and from there, we can customize a program specifically for the two of you. After all, we want to make sure you get exactly what you require. To learn more about the different programs we offer we encourage you to check our Services page.

Q?

Why should I consider hiring a wedding planner?

A.

With today’s hectic lifestyle, many engaged couples and their families simply do not have the time for the detailed planning and work involved that a beautiful wedding requires. Furthermore, how many times have you planned an event on this type of scale with thousands of details that need to be looked after? For most couples, this is the first time. It’s overwhelming to know even where to start. As one of our brides said, she didn’t even know how much she didn’t know and wouldn’t have even considered until she started working with us.

When you hire a wedding planner, she brings her knowledge and her experience to the table. She has a wealth of vendor contacts at her fingertips and will be able to suggest the best vendors just for you to bring your dream wedding to life. Better yet, she knows the pitfalls to avoid that most first-time brides wouldn’t even be aware of and can offer suggestions that will make your wedding vision a reality. She will save you time, money, and make sure your day goes smoothly!

Q?

Through my venue I already have a wedding planner. Why would I need anyone else?

A.

Most venues do have a person who is specifically in charge of handling the details on behalf of the venue for a wedding. The misconception is in their job title. They might be called a wedding planner or wedding coordinator. In actuality, however, they are the venue wedding coordinator. They represent the venue and ensure that all the information is collected to make sure things are handled from the venue’s point of view. We, on the other hand, work specifically for you and act as your advocate. A venue coordinator might be at your wedding for only part of the day or assign the job to a banquet manager. We are there for you from start to finish to make sure everything runs smoothly with ALL of your vendors.

Q?

How does wedding planning work? Won’t a wedding planner want to run the whole show?

A.

A professional wedding planner will work with you to handle as much or as little of your wedding as you wish. We don’t want you to be slotted into a package. Instead, for the majority of our clients we customize a program to only include the areas in which they need assistance. This ranges from couples needing help with the majority of their wedding plans (e.g. full wedding planning) to DIY couples who want only a bit of guidance and advice (e.g. hourly consulting), or Day of Coordination weddings to Décor and Design only. After all, it is your wedding. We’re there to help you and your family make the day runs as smoothly as possible in whatever capacity you need us.

You might even compare us to an orchestral conductor. All of the different instruments are critical to the success and performance of a piece of music, but it is the conductor who keeps everyone on beat, cues important entrances, adjusts timings as required, and signals the different styles and nuances in the music. More importantly, if things get off a bit or become a little shaky, it is the conductor that the musicians all look for to figure out where they are and get back on track. While every instrument is important, it is the conductor that keeps everyone together to create a performance of a beautiful piece of music!

Q?

Your company offers planning, décor, flowers and stationery. Do we have to use your company for all of these services?

A.

The longer our company has been in the wedding industry, the more types of design services we have been able to offer our clients. While our belief is that we can come up with a more cohesive vision for your wedding when one or more design components are involved we understand and respect our client’s choice to use vendors of their choice. We have developed wonderful relationships with other stationary and floral vendors in the Calgary and Banff areas and have no problem working with outside vendors on your wedding design. At the same time, many of our couples enjoy the ease of “one-stop shopping” by using Creative Weddings for all of their planning and design needs.

As well, our stationary and floral divisions are separate and can be contracted for a wedding or event that is not being planned by Creative Weddings Planning & Décor.

Q?

When doing décor, do you use your own inventory?

A.

It really depends on what our clients want. We have access to some great rental companies in the area who can supply us with chairs, linens, chair covers and more. They have access to large inventories of items that really give the majority of our clients choice and selection. After all, we don’t want your wedding to look like any one else’s.

However, sometimes our clients are looking for something that is different. When needed, we can definitely source out these items and will bring them in from locations throughout Canada, the United States, and internationally.

Finally, over the past few years we have been committed to developing our own décor inventory, focusing on unique items that are available only through us. These items may have been made specifically designed for a venue (like our metal frame for a floral chandelier in the Fairmont Palliser CPR Pavilion) or brought in specifically for one of our clients, but that we saw the potential for future use (e.g. iron gazebo/chuppah or large pomander stands). These make up the Creative Weddings Exclusive Collection and are available only to our clients.

Q?

Will I lose control of my wedding?

A.

Of course not! This is YOUR wedding. We want you to be an integral part of the planning process (as well as the chief decision maker). We just understand that today’s couples lead busy lives and the time they have to plan a wedding is limited. Allow us to look after the details, such as checking out and sourcing vendors, gathering information, and working on all the logistics so you can focus on the more enjoyable stuff, like choosing your décor or deciding on your flowers.  We’ll do the work so you can have the fun!

Q?

How do I know my wedding planner is recommending quality vendors?

A.

We’ve built our business on developing wonderful relationships with quality and respected vendors in our area. Part of our reason for getting to know our clients so well is to ensure that we’re recommending vendors who you will connect with and be able to deliver the type of service you want and deserve. Many of our vendors are members of the Calgary Bridal Alliance (CBA). All of us follow a strict Code of Ethics to ensure that you as the client get the best service possible. You can be guaranteed that if we recommend a vendor, it is because they provide the type of quality service that you deserve.
